How does he do it?!?

He’s Jack Bauer of course…

for fellow ‘24′ fans I’ve uploaded the latest Jack Bauer list I could find. It’s a funny list that continues to grow on the internet as the show continues. While all of this is a joke it really points to a common truth – most guys like to see guys kick ‘butt’ (as my son Thomas likes to say – much to the chagrin of his ever feminine and lovely mother).
All that being said I have to say that it brought to mind how there really is something to the differences in genders. No matter how many androgynous programs or curriculums are rolled out to influence the children of today this will never change. A boy needs to feel like he’s a hero and there’s a purpose to his masculinity. A girl needs to feel that she is beautiful and that there is a purpose to her femininity. Now, before everyone calls me a misogynist or prejudiced pig I want to make it clear that I’m not saying that the masculine cannot be gentle or bear feminine traits or vice versa – but just in our little family it is clear there is a clear distinction between the boys and girls.
Weapons are made out of Lego blocks, cables, sticks and any small object that can be quickly garnered as a projectile weapon. If there is no object readily available then all that is left is gritted teeth, raised shoulders, a lowered head and some running room – all with arms extended into closed fists. I now find myself actually having to protect myself as I’m attacked from 3 different directions – and you know what? It’s a blast. Joshua and Thomas start grinning from ear to ear when they can get an ‘oof’, ‘owww’ or ‘nice shot’ from their Dad. I still have yet to bleed other than a bloody nose but there have been plenty of sore spots and a couple of bruises here and there.
If i can I’d like to recommend a book that I continually suggest to people:

“Wild at Heart : Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul” (John Eldredge)
It really offers insight into the male heart and answers questions as to what has happened over the decades to the original vision of man.
So, while not every guy wants to be Jack Bauer I think it can be said that every guy is looking for an adventure…read the book…
